Publishing Fees
Open Access provides free and immediate online access to the scholarly literature for anyone in the world to read, distribute and reuse. Articles and editorial material that are accepted for publication incur Article Processing Charges (APC).
Please consult the table below for information on APCs. The APC and discounts are valid for regular articles and articles for special issues, as of February 1, 2021.
APCs may be subject to periodic revision. The invoiced APC is the one valid at the time of manuscript submission.
Public Health Reviews (PHR)
APCs for PHR comprise the production costs of the publisher and the editorial costs of the owner, the non-profit Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+).
Authors who require APC support may be eligible for an APC discount provided by SSPH+. To qualify, the first author must be affiliated with an institution in a low- or middle-income country (research4life categorization). A case-by-case review of all applications will be undertaken by the society. The reduced APC discount is shown in the table. No further discounts are currently available.
Should you wish to apply for a potential discount, please complete the APC support application form at the time of manuscript submission.
PHR also offers APC Waivers for SSPH+ Affiliates. Manuscripts with successful peer-review and with at least one author affiliated with SSPH+ (at time of submission) will be published free of charge (no APC). Find more information and procedure here.
Since 2021, the PHR GLOBEQUITY program has offered APC discounts and waivers for first authors affiliated with institutions in low- and middle-income countries (research4life) and some additional countries where there is limited access to APC funding. The GLOBEQUITY program is funded by swissuniversities with contributions from SSPH+. Please note that, due to limited funding, PHR is currently not accepting new applications for GLOBEQUITY APC waivers or discounts.
Authors publishing with SSPH may benefit from financial support from their institution through Frontiers' Institutional Agreements. Please check with your institution’s librarian to check your eligibility.

When submitting a manuscript to PHR, authors acknowledge that they are fully aware of and agree with the payment of the listed article processing fee should the manuscript be accepted for publication.
