Background

In an era where the world population is living longer than ever before, the discrepancy between lived years and healthy years has become a pivotal challenge for public health and health systems worldwide. Efforts must focus on ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to live a healthy life as they age. This aim ties directly into the WHO's Sustainable Development Goals.

We invite PhD students to submit Young Researcher Editorials on healthy longevity from a public health perspective. These should highlight actionable strategies and real-world applications for addressing demographic changes such as those outlined in the Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity. Some of the areas of interest include:

• Data-driven plans for building organizations and social infrastructures needed to enable healthy longevity including public health surveillance.
• Collective mechanisms that promote social inclusion, financial security in retirement, and digital literacy.
• Physical environment enablers that promote well-being, access to food, health, transportation, and social services.
• Health system transformations integrating the prevention of non-communicable diseases, and long-term care.
• The role of infectious diseases and future pandemics in influencing health and longevity.

The call is open until July 31st, 2024.

Please submit a full manuscript before the deadline. Selection of manuscripts for publication will be done after the call's deadline, and authors of the pre-selected manuscripts will be notified in August.

YREs are evidence-based discussions with a single clear message. YRE author guidelines apply. YRE manuscripts will be reviewed by YRE editors and a professional science content editor. YRE accepted for publication will be published online within 3 weeks after acceptance.

If you have any questions, please contact Diana Buitrago-Garcia (diana.buitragogarcia@unige.ch) or Ana Cecilia Quiroga Gutierrez (ana.quirogagutierrez@bfh.ch), co-Editors-in-Chief of the YRE series.
